It has become clear that I’m being misunderstood about something…
(What, a guy in pantyhose and heels, misunderstood? How could that be? 😂)
I am in no way a “non-gender-binary” advocate. I honor, respect, and advocate for that which makes men and women different.
In my little corner of the Internet, I often encounter people who say “clothing should have no gender”.
This is always said by men who are attempting to wear women’s clothing – never the other way around.
When a man says that clothing should have no gender, he’s asking you to remove the designation “women’s” from something he wants to wear:
Heels.
Nylons.
Skirts.
Etc, etc.
In this secnario, a man is asking you to remove the word “woman” from a thing so that he can be more comfortable borrowing your stuff, so that his concept of his own masculinity will be less challenged.
In the words of Madonna’s song “What it Feels Like For A Girl”:
“Girls can wear jeans
And cut their hair short
Wear shirts and boots
‘Cause it’s OK to be a boy
But for a boy to look like a girl is degrading
‘Cause you think that being a girl is degrading”
These heels, these nylon stockings, will always be a women’s item.
The word “woman” doesn’t threaten my masculinity.
I love the things that make men and women different –
so much, that I like to borrow a few things now and then. It’s fun.
Any questions?
